Here’s my tips to save money without loosing quality:)
How to travel cheap in Sardinia
Since i am a freelance writer and i love traveling around Sardinia, i always look for the best accomodations at the lowest price.
I don’t need to book a 4 or 5 stars hotel, and i don’t want to book it. It not a question of money, it’s only that there’s nothing far as a big resorts from the true spirit of the island.
I prefer farms surrounded by nature; campings on the beach front; a nice bed&breakfast in the historical centre of beautiful cities like Cagliari, Alghero or Oristano.
IF you want to live a travel experience in the real Sardinia read my story and follow my tips
A little TRUE story
Once i visited the island of Rodi, in Greece, and after a day spent in Faliraki, a big touristic area in the east coast, i realized it was a fortune i booked my room in Lindos for my whole holday. Lindos in fact is a small fisherman’s village full of those sea view typical houses, white coloured, located on stepping-stones beetwen markets rich of folklore.
I mean that in Sardinia you could live a similar experience, but on the contrary, if you don’t book in the right place, but.
Can we say that in Sardinia there are wrong and right places? Absolutely not, the island is all beautiful.
We can say that there are a lot of popular tourist destinations such as Costa Smeralda; Costa Rei and San Teodoro.
I live near Costa Smeralda and i love its landscapes, as the way i love San Teodoro and Costa Rei, but. Because there’s always a “but”.
I prefer less expensive places that are beautiful in the same way.
There are a lot of suggestions i would like to talk you about, so let’s begin!
Rentals cars
If you want to tour the island coast-to-coast is better to rent a car.
Consider that Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea so is impossibile to visit it all you in one or two weeks, even with a car or a motorbike.
For this reason, you should study your itinerary taking in mind that in 7 days, probably, you can visit only 3 or 4 different places without stress.
LOOK AT MY VIDEOS ABOUT ITINERARIES IN SARDINIA
I talked about it in my article about Sardinia Public Transports, that you should read to elect your way to move (car; bus; taxi; trains; car sharing).
About rentals cars i suggest to book online at least 3 months before the beginning of your holiday: you pay less and you have all the time to take information about italian rental contracts.
Nothing nefarious, but it is important to read the contract, especially the exclusion clauses for compensation in case of accident.
If you book through Rentalcars.com; Autoeurope.it; Europecar.it or at Autonoleggiosardinya.it in winter or spring you can spend not more than 15 p.day and you will drive around Sardinia with less than 200 euros.
To spend not more than 15 p.day, just choose an economic car.
NOTE: you need a credit card to book online at the lower price. Otherwise, they could request a deposit up to 500 euros.
So let’s resume how you can spend less on the car rental:
1) Compare the prices online and book at least 3 months before the beginning of your holiday;
2) Choose an economic car;
3) To book, use a credit card.
Destinations
As i already explained, and i hope you believe me, traveling cheap in Sardinia doesn’t mean traveling uncomfortable or sleep in ugly, unsafe or unhygienic places.
Even more, it doesn’t mean to miss the best of the holiday or visit cities, beaches and attractions that do not deserve to be seen.
Traveling cheap in Sardinia means, the most of the times, discover the real island: the genuineness of its people; the truth and the charm of traditions; the culture of good food and still wild and uncontaminated beaches and some of the most beautiful villages in Italy.
